In union with the Universal Company of Mary, St. Jeanne de Lestonnac Residence celebrated our Feast for the second time since it was established in 2009. It was the way for us to give more information about St. Jeanne de Lestonnac to the residents who are boarding in the house under her name.
At this moment we have 11residents: 3 from the Philippines, 1 from Thailand, 1 from East Timor, 1 from Cambodia, 1 from Indonesia and 4 from Korea. Half of them are students of the Ateneo de Manila University with different courses; the other half are studying English.
Besides, their religions are very varied: Islam, Buddhism and Catholic. However, everyone participated in our nine days of Novena to St. Jeanne de Lestonnac even if they did not understand anything.
We held the Novena to St. Jeanne de Lestonnac from May 7 to May 14 at 8:00 o’clock in the evening. We followed the guide and so we read the reading of each day according to the theme based on the History of the Order. We took turn to read each one a paragraph so that everyone could actively participate.
On May 15, we celebrated the Eucharist in the Chapel at 6:00 in the evening presided by Father Champoux, S.J. In his homily he talked about the Spirit which Jesus passed on to the disciples and wanted them to live out after He went back to the Father. He mentioned about the spirit of St. Ignatius that he passed on to all his companions in the Society of Jesus. The same happened with St. Jeanne de Lestonnac. He said he did not know much about her but he believes that St. Jeanne also passed on the spirit to her companions. The only difference is how we live that spirit in our day, our situation, our context and that is now our challenge.
We ended the Eucharist at 6:45 P.M. afterwhich we had a dinner celebration together with dormers in the
Residence Sala. We enjoyed very much talking, eating and sharing our joy of the Feast of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac. We prayed for each one on that day especially for our residence and the mission in which we are slowly evangelizing the young women in the spirit of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac. (Manila Community)
